Voters in the Baker School District defeated a proposed $48 million school construction bond Tuesday, sending district officials back to the drawing board on how to address critical concerns about facilities.

Parent Teacher Conferences will undergo a schedule change this Fall for families with elementary students. Traditionally elementary schools arrange individual appointments with parents throughout Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday morning of conference week.

If Proposed School Bond Is Approved, Baker School District 5J invites the Baker County business community to learn about local work and business opportunities if a proposed $48 million capital construction bond is approved in the November 6 election.

Daisy Walden has been selected to coordinate Baker 5J’s Friday Experience program. Initiated in 2016-17, Friday Experience is a means of providing extra-curricular enrichment opportunities during the regular school year for students in Gr. K-12.

Baker School District is preparing to install a greenhouse for the high school agriculture program to replace those lost in the winter of 2016. The District worked with Baker City Planning Commission and members of the Long Range Facility Committee to determine the best space for installation.  Property adjacent to the voc-ag classroom (previously used as a kindergarten playground) was identified as the best location. The greenhouse will be installed later this Fall.

Community members are invited to see first-hand some of the concerns that would be addressed if voters approve a proposed school bond in the Nov. 6 election.
